It’s another misty day with the cloud being blown in from the east coast. There is a cool breeze as well so you need a jacket on when you are out on the heath. It has been a good morning so far and I am delighted that the horses are moving so well. We should be in for quite a few runners in the next month if progress continues like this.

We have one runner today at Lingfield where Velvet Voice runs in the two mile race at 4.40. She just scraped in at the bottom of the handicap and this is the first time over this sort of trip. I am sure she will stay though, the jockey is in form and if she gets any luck in running I am sure will give a good account of herself.

I am pleased to see Alastair Down agreeing with me on why simplifying our sport isn’t the way to a healthy future. We commented on the ITV racing spokesman speaking to the delegates in South Korea recently on breaking down the sport and thought that would encourage people to come racing. Alastair agrees with me that it is poppycock and he is underestimating the intelligence of the racing public. As I said the other day every sport has its own jargon and people like to learn, investigate and expand their knowledge with all the terminology that goes on in any sport. There is no need for any of this jargon busting, it is just part of the sport.

Another good point was brought up I see by Eve Johnson Houghton saying that drinking should be banned on certainly parts of the racecourse. She had had an altercation with a group of lads who shouldn’t have been on the owners and trainers stand at Salisbury. This drinking culture just requires common sense and people will soon get used to it if they are not allowed to carry drinks onto certain parts of the course. It would just make life much better for everybody. There are a lot of people being alienated, especially families, and the sooner the racecourses get a grip the better.
