We have two runners today at Wolverhampton

Saint Anthony back from third lot

We have had a very wet weekend and the weather has continued in the same vein this morning, which is disappointing after last week’s few days of spring. It’s showers all week according to the forecast but I suppose it is typical April weather. We have a couple of non-runners again today which is always annoying and we have just been carrying on getting the horses cantered the best we can. Two canters on Hamilton Hill has been the exercise this morning.

We have two runners today both this evening at Wolverhampton where I will be going later on. Shane Kelly rides them both. Our first is Gee Sixty Six in the 6.45, the mile and a half handicap. This horse never runs a bad race and it will be interesting to see what Shane makes of him tonight. He is not drawn brilliantly but this is a poor race and I would expect him to be there about if putting his best foot forward. Velvet Voice has shown some good form at times but has had one or two small problems which have held us up, but she is now in very good form. As for the trip, I am not 100% certain, but once again we will learn a lot from this race. I think they both could run with credit though.

We had a busy weekend on the stud with plenty of coverings, one on Saturday, two on Sunday and one has gone off today. I took one of them on Sunday all the way down to Gloucestershire which went off well and let’s hope they are all in foal after the first covering. The foaling mares are still hanging on but they must have them this week as there are at least two of them a long way overdue and showing all the signs that they are not too far off.
