We have one runner today at Lingfield

Pageant Master

It’s a very windy morning, in fact the clouds are flying across the sky. We have got rain forecast but as yet it has not arrived, thank goodness, as I am sure when it does, with this wind it will be horrendous. Everybody is in today and we have been having an in and out cantering morning on Hamilton Hill. My job has been picking up plastic bags and other debris which, if not in my hands, would be causing havoc with the strings riding past.

Walking back home

We have one runner today at Lingfield. Topalova runs in the two mile handicap at 2.40. Once again the draw has been very unkind as we are right on the outside and will have to negotiate the whole field early in the contest if we are to have any hope at all. She has certainly got the ability to be competitive here, but the draw makes it quite difficult.

I see the powers that be have decided on the best racehorse ratings with Arrogate getting the nod over Gun Runner, Winx and our own Enable. As usual you can’t see the logic in this as I think they are basing this on the one unbelievable run in the Dubai World Cup. He has been beaten every time since, in fact showing no interest whatsoever. I personally would have liked to have seen either of the mares at the top, Winx or Enable, who have been fantastic, but as normal it is all down to opinions.

It is very sad to read of the death of Richard Woollacott at the very early age of 40. I didn’t know him personally, but those that did said he was a very good trainer and a lovely fellow. When these things happen it is a shock to everybody and our condolences go to his wife and family.
