"All emotion is involuntary when genuine."

It’s a coolish start and we have had some showers of rain which have blown across quite quickly. It could stay like it for most of the day. Everybody is in who should be in this morning and all going well so far. I have been very busy up at the sales, along with Angie, and as yet we have not bought anything as the trade has been unbelievably strong. Whether that is all genuine or not is debatable, but there are certainly a few people to who money cannot mean anything.

Our two runners ran very similarly yesterday. Astrobreeze ran a sound race on her debut, on a course and ground that wouldn’t particularly suit and if the jockey had ridden with a bit of brain, would have finished a lot closer. When the ground is soft at Brighton they always come stands side, which is much faster ground, but for some unknown reason, only known to him, he went up the middle. Clearance was slowly away and stayed on once his chance had gone. He definitely needs a mile and six plus and better ground, but he is genuine and I will find him a race in the not too distant future.

I see the BHA are going to have meetings about the integrity of the sales and the buying and selling of racehorses. This initiative will be a good thing as we certainly need new owners to come into the game at all levels, whether it is a £5,000 yearling or a million pound horse. The integrity and genuineness of sales must be of paramount importance. It will be interesting to see what the outcome is.
